PHD Protein Flap Jack Bars

img_0236

@phdnutritionuk Apple Raspberry Bar. Got it from my @supsbox

PHD protein flapjack apple/raspberry –
270cal / 6.6f / 37c / 19p Visually has a thick gooey oat top layer than a white chocolate coating over the bottom. Bit bigger weighing in at 75g compared to a typical 60g bar. Absolutely phenomenal raspberry aroma. The bar had pretty good chew, but is a tad dry the more you eat it. It’s strong flavored in the raspberry side and little in the apple. Overall the flavoring of the bar was way to artificial for me, and that’s saying something. I actually only ate about half as I had gotten tired of the flavor. Bit higher in carbs, which is coming from the oats I would assume. Not the worst bar I’ve had, but I definitely wouldn’t go out of my way to snag one.

5.5/10

BPI Best Bar

@bpi_sports best bar review.
Smores – 9f/28c/20p and 15g fiber – visually similar to a quest. Nice chunks of Graham cracker chocolate, and even small bits of marshmallow. Very nice Graham cracker smell. First bite was totally unexpected! You bite in and get loads of Graham cracker crunch right away! Finish’s wish a sweet marshmallow finish. Warmed up brought even more sweetness to it. Good chew as well. Both bars also only feature isolate protein. Only criticism, add in a bit more chocolate.
6.5/10

Cookies n Cream 8f/28c/20p 16g of fiber – looks visually like CCCD bar , slight vanilla smell, good chocolate chunks, they made the chocolate chunks a bit crust here to which is nice, as it has a nice chew. Good but of a vanilla cream when eating. Once again warming brought more sweetness into the mix. I again would say add in a bit more chocolate n chunks to this one.

@bpi_sports salted caramel pretzel bar
230 cals / 7f / 29c / 20p and 15f
Great chew, great caramel aroma Pretzel added a nice texture enhancement but flavor got a bit lost. The bar itself seems to be a Vanilla base with hints of salted caramel. The caramel almost seems to be a backdrop flavor. Could be increased just a bit. I would also add in a bit more salt flavor as well. Might help bring both the caramel and pretzel out. I get pretty excited when I see a bar containing pretzel as it isn’t normally seen. Combining it with Caramel is a solid move. I definitely liked the flavor this left in my mouth after eating it. Caramel seemed to linger which I’m not complaining about.

@bpi_sports Apple Crumb Cake Best Bar-
220cal/6f/29c/20p. 17fiber
Smells very similar to the quest apple pie, and looks like it to. Soft bar, with a good chew. The base of the bars all seem to taste very similar with a vanilla base flavor. This one has hints of apple as you chew through it, that come from small dried apple pieces. I was definitely hoping for a Stronger cinnamon flavor with the bar. Few crunchy pieces scattered in there but needs more for a texture appeal. Flavored with stevia, which I know is a big hit for loads of people. Macros are pretty standard, maybe just a tad high on the carbs but not terrible. I would rate this one 3rd, behind Smores and Salted Caramel but ahead of CnC.

What I liked: Apple flavor , chewy, soft, simple short ingredient list.
Improvements: Cinnamon/crumb cake flavor, more texture.
5/10,, not the best, but not the worst

Again a very unappealing bar on the visual and aroma side of things. Tan bar with a yellowish white coating mimicking icing I would assume. Just a few small sprinkles scattered throughout the bar as well. Honesty I couldn’t even hammer out a smell on this bar, I think they were trying for a bday cake aroma or something but it’s to faint. Very very weird off putting taste as soon as you bite into, with a weird texture. You think it would be soft n chewy but it almost has a plastic feel to it. No real taste either other than a bit of sweetness at the end. I took only as many bites needed to make this review. Yet another dissipointment from @bpi_sports and their bars. Definitely sad I wasted money on these, but I knew I would not be surprised, yet I had to do it for you #fitfam .

@bpi_sports white chocolate pretzel review
250 cal / 9f / 32c / 20p .

Visually extremely unappealing here. Tan bar with a white bottom coating with pretzels scattered through out. Not really much of a smell here. Kinda just like their other bars. Little bit of white chocolate that’s it, but not a very pleasant smell. Very bland taste here. Extremely sticky, I don’t taste pretzel or w.choc, almost no crunch from the pretzel and you really only get a small vanilla sweet taste twords the end. Very disappointed with this bar. Little high on the macros being 9f and 32 c but they say it’s only 12 net carbs cause of fiber but I don’t follow that. I definitely would never buy this again and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. .

Xtend Perform

@scivation new Xtend Perform 2:1:1 BCAA mix and their new joint supplement with tons of samples. Now I gotta say right off the bat that I’m usually not a mango flavored guy but Bob recommended it and he is right, they nailed this flavoring. Tastes so good, and mixability on it is fantastic. I always recommend scivation cause they usually are always spot on with their flavoring. Didn’t disappoint. Nice bit of electrolytes, and a new blend of ‘peak02’
9/10 easy.
Curious on this joint supplement as its not your usual mix of ingredients.

@lunabar white chocolate Macadamia – 7f/25c/9p
High expectations as this is one of my favorite flavor combos.
Very strong but pleasant smell of vanilla with a hint of cinnamon. Texture just like a rice crispy, with a good chew. Coating of white chocolate on the bottom, and a drizzle on top. Don’t get to much Macadamia nut unfortunately, I would say maybe make the pieces a bit bigger. A few bites did have good combo of flavor tho. Overall macros are not that great but it was enjoyable to eat. I will definitely be eating more of these to try their flavors

7.8/10 would get higher if macros were better.

@lunabar smores review.
6f/27c/9p
Overall weak macros. Designed for women I would assume it to be lower in calories. Anyway, decent smell when opening. Chocolate meets Graham cracker. Rice crispy top coated in chocolate. Good chew when your eating this, and the chocolate coating on the bottom is nice. No real marshmallow found when eating this bar. Maybe they counting it as whats holding the rice crispy together? If this woulda had little chunks of marshmallow this woulda reminded me of those granola smores bars I ate when I was younger.
7/10 decent taste, but not smores.

Muscle Frosting

@youfreshnaturals muscle frosting review
Cookies & cream – 13f/8c/10p – first Smell is a bit of CnC, decent macros for a spread. Unfortunately I’m not a huge fan. Very grainy texture, and it doesn’t have a ton of actually flavor IMO. Hint of cookies n creme then it kinda fades away by the time you swallow it. You definitely get to the cashew flavor quick. Definitely wouldn’t be a Sammy spread or something like that. Would be more of a spoon eating spread. Needs more ‘cnc’ flavor definitely.
5/10
Cookie dough – 14f/7c/10p – get mainly just a chocolate smell. Also very grainy texture. Chocolate on top is pretty cool but it’s kind of a thick layer with not a ton of sweetness. More of a coco flavor. More of a spoon spread. The chocolate could be used to spread I suppose. The cookie dough by itself is also slightly unsweetened as well, and it’s needing more flavor.

FluffButter

Up for today’s #nutbutter review: @dsnaturals

Vanilla Maple 15f/7c/11p – very good smell of Maple, great texture as its very smooth. Would be great for a drizzle of some sorts. I get more vanilla than I do maple. I make my own maple syrup so I got a taste for it, so definitely try to increase that. Pleasant aftertaste as well. Good consistency for being kept in the fridge. Doesn’t get hard as a rock

8/10
Brownie batter – 15f/7c/11p – good chocolate brownie smell, again good smooth consistency even after being in the fridge. Easy to spread. You can taste the almond a lot on this one with a backdrop of chocolate. Would definitely try to increase the chocolate.
8/10

Both also get good marks for vegan friendly, gluten. Dairy, soy, lactose, etc etc free.
These are both solid buys, and I would recommend👍

Savory Pancake Pizza

I decided to get a bit creative for breakfast today. I mean, who doesn’t want to start their day, let alone their week off with some pizza. I know I don’t mind one bit. I have never really done any kind of savory pancakes before so this is definitely a work in progress but I love the direction!

Lets get started!

First, Pre heat oven to 350 degrees. Then grab a bowl and add dry mix into bowl. I used 2 svgs of protein pancake flapjacked mix. Use ‘flexiblebaker’ to save 10%

Add water to your mix.

IMG_20160502_071006784

Next add in your favorite spices. For this pizza I chose garlic, chili powder, onion powder, thyme, and Italian seasoning blend. Mix well.

IMG_20160502_071256373

Then grab a non stick skillet and spray with non stick spray. Heat on medium heat. Once hot, add your all of your pancake mix into the skillet.

IMG_20160502_072905113

Once your pancake starts cooking start to add your toppings. I chose red/yellow peppers, spinach, cheese, pepperoni, jalapeños, and fresh shallots(once done cooking). Once your pancake has developed that golden brown crust on the bottom were you would be ready to flip it, place in your over at 350 degrees for 5-10 until the pancake cooks through.

IMG_20160502_073156202_HDR

Take out of oven and slide onto a plate.

IMG_20160502_074201986

I decided to add my sauce on at the end to give it that “breakfast, I just pour syrup on my pancake” feel. I also was worried the sauce would make the pancake to soggy and not cook. I could be wrong.

Delicious to say the least.
