I like the macros off the bat as the last few newer quest bars were coming in at 9g or more. Visually it’s the very common quest base tan, as flavored mocha with chocolate #chunkporn throughout the bar. Slight mocha, coffee aroma to the bar but very hard to smell imo. Typical for quest I heated one half of the bar and left the other room temp. The room temp bar had good chew but I felt the mocha flavor really lacked until the very end of the bite. It also was just a tad bit grainy as well. Heated up bar made for a better texture but still was a bit grainy or pasty. You get just a hint of mocha or coffee overall. When taken with a chunk of chocolate it can almost give a burnt coffee flavor. The more you ate the bar the more the flavor built in your mouth, you got a bit more flavor after eating the Bar. Was nice to see a coffee flavor come to market but I think it needs a bit of work. Decent to munch on but I wouldn’t buy a whole box, and would choose other flavors to this.

Overall – 6/10

MTS is easily one of my favorite protein brands on the market. I have personally tried three of their flavors(CNC, mint cnc, and Red Velvet) and have loved each flavor. They spent a good amount of time testing their products before releasing, and it shows.

Triple Threat Peanut Butter Cookie stuffed Buttermilk Muffins

IMG_1512

It’s 1895 and the world was changed as we knew it. That year Dr. John Harvey Kellogg (the creator of Kellogg’s cereal) patented a process for creating peanut butter from raw peanuts. That set the tone for the next 100+ years of mastering the craft that is Peanut Butter. You love it, you hate it, but you always eat it. Sometimes one tablespoon just isn’t enough. Next thing you know you’re elbows deep in your last Epic Spreads jar. Yeah, I’ve had those PB blackouts to, it’s okay. This is a judgement free zone.

I was determined to create an ultimate peanut butter muffin that not only gave you the kick of peanut butter, but also was way easier to fit into your daily allowance. I didn’t hold anything back with these PB filled flavor bombs. I swear the aroma these give off well baking is enough to make your mouth water. Not only did I make the base a peanut butter flavor, but then I stuffed the muffins with Muscletech’s new PB soft baked cookie, Epic Spreads Toffee PB, and Reeses baking chips for a triple threat peanut butter overload.

Ingredients:

Wet Mix:

  • 8 oz Low Fat Buttermilk
  • 28g Lite Butter
  • 2 Egg whites
  • 1 Whole egg
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 60g Fat Free Sour Cream
  • 56g Epic Spreads Toffee Peanut Butter

Dry Mix:

  • 50g Truvia
  • 60g All Purpose Flour
  • 100g Old Fashion Oats
  • 1.5 scoops Muscletech Vanilla Whey
  • 12g Powdered Peanut Butter
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 30g Reeses Baking Chips
  • 1 Muscletech Soft Baked Cookie cut into small pieces.

Glaze:

  • 18g Powdered Peanut butter
  • Liquid to mix. I used water.

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a microwave safe bowl melt your butter, then once melted add in your peanut butter and combine.
  3. Then proceed to add in the rest of your wet ingredients. Grab a good whisk and combine everything. Set aside.
  4. In a separate bowl, place in all of your dry mix. Only add in half of your chips and cookie. Mix until combined.
  5. Optional Step* Leave out the Oats in step 4, then using a sifter, sift dry mix into wet, then add in oats to help ensure even distribution of ingredients.
  6. Proceed to use your whisk to combine your dry with your wet. Part way through you can switch to a spatula to make sure you get everything off of the bottom.
  7. Spray your muffin pan with non stick cooking spray, evenly coating each holder. No one wants muffins sticking!
  8. Evenly place your batter into prepared pan. You should have 12 pretty full muffin spots.*Batter can be refrigerated to help thicken batter, but is not needed.
  9. Once batter is distributed, evenly place remaining cooking pieces and Reeses chips on top of muffins.
  10. Place muffin tray in the oven and bake for roughly 14-18 minutes.
  11. Once muffins have baked through, take out of the oven and place the pan directly onto a cooling rack. Let sit for 7-10 minutes.
  12. After 7-10 minutes, remove your muffins from the tray and place back on cooling rack to finish cooling.
  13. At this point, take your powdered peanut butter for your glaze and mix just enough liquid to get a nice runny consistency that will be able to drizzle well, yet not to runny that it’s to watery and run right off of your muffins.
  14. Either using a piping bag, spoon, spatula, or method of choice, drizzle, cover, dip each muffin in your glaze.
  15. This point, your muffins are complete! Time to dig in! Enjoy!

Tips and Tricks

  • Bake muffins on middle rack or above. Cooking them on a low rack can cause bottoms to cook faster.
  • Use the toothpick test to check if completely baked through.
  • Look for the tops to start turning golden brown for a sign of being done.
  • Peanut Butter Protein would work just as well in this recipe.
  • These keep well in the fridge. I had them for 5 days.
  • Heat in the microwave for 20 seconds for best eating quality.

@lunabar white chocolate Macadamia – 7f/25c/9p
High expectations as this is one of my favorite flavor combos.
Very strong but pleasant smell of vanilla with a hint of cinnamon. Texture just like a rice crispy, with a good chew. Coating of white chocolate on the bottom, and a drizzle on top. Don’t get to much Macadamia nut unfortunately, I would say maybe make the pieces a bit bigger. A few bites did have good combo of flavor tho. Overall macros are not that great but it was enjoyable to eat. I will definitely be eating more of these to try their flavors

7.8/10 would get higher if macros were better.

@lunabar smores review.
6f/27c/9p
Overall weak macros. Designed for women I would assume it to be lower in calories. Anyway, decent smell when opening. Chocolate meets Graham cracker. Rice crispy top coated in chocolate. Good chew when your eating this, and the chocolate coating on the bottom is nice. No real marshmallow found when eating this bar. Maybe they counting it as whats holding the rice crispy together? If this woulda had little chunks of marshmallow this woulda reminded me of those granola smores bars I ate when I was younger.
7/10 decent taste, but not smores.

Muscle Frosting

@youfreshnaturals muscle frosting review
Cookies & cream – 13f/8c/10p – first Smell is a bit of CnC, decent macros for a spread. Unfortunately I’m not a huge fan. Very grainy texture, and it doesn’t have a ton of actually flavor IMO. Hint of cookies n creme then it kinda fades away by the time you swallow it. You definitely get to the cashew flavor quick. Definitely wouldn’t be a Sammy spread or something like that. Would be more of a spoon eating spread. Needs more ‘cnc’ flavor definitely.
5/10
Cookie dough – 14f/7c/10p – get mainly just a chocolate smell. Also very grainy texture. Chocolate on top is pretty cool but it’s kind of a thick layer with not a ton of sweetness. More of a coco flavor. More of a spoon spread. The chocolate could be used to spread I suppose. The cookie dough by itself is also slightly unsweetened as well, and it’s needing more flavor.
5.5/10

Up for today’s #nutbutter review: @dsnaturals

Vanilla Maple 15f/7c/11p – very good smell of Maple, great texture as its very smooth. Would be great for a drizzle of some sorts. I get more vanilla than I do maple. I make my own maple syrup so I got a taste for it, so definitely try to increase that. Pleasant aftertaste as well. Good consistency for being kept in the fridge. Doesn’t get hard as a rock

8/10
Brownie batter – 15f/7c/11p – good chocolate brownie smell, again good smooth consistency even after being in the fridge. Easy to spread. You can taste the almond a lot on this one with a backdrop of chocolate. Would definitely try to increase the chocolate.
8/10

Both also get good marks for vegan friendly, gluten. Dairy, soy, lactose, etc etc free.
These are both solid buys, and I would recommend👍
